I have been watching Gilmore Girls since I was in high school. I binge watch a lot of series at that time together with Vampire Diaries, Prison Break, Secret Circle, My Lucky Life, Once upon a time and many more. Back to back with other Korean dramas that we all love.
Rory Gilmore, is my beloved character from the TV show “Gilmore Girls,” has captured my heart for various reasons. Here are my top 10:
1) Intelligent – Rory is known for her natural and exceptional intelligence, her love for books, and her academic achievements. Regardless of the situations given to her, she prioritized her studies so much that her mom helped her study in season 1. Her intellectual curiosity and dedication to her studies make her an inspiration to me as I prepare for the last hurdle of my college years.
2) Kindness and Empathy – She is genuinely kind to everybody in Stars Hollow and a very Empathetic person to everyone. She sometimes goes beyond her comfort zone to help others. Her compassionate nature really is endearing to me.
3) Love of Reading – If you have been reading my blogs, you would have known that I love books. I’ve been reading as long as I can remember. Rory’s passion for reading and her extensive books introduced me to new books and authors. Well, not really new but at least to some books that I didn’t know existed like Moby Dick, The Distance Between us and many more. I like how she was so in love not just to Dean but also to her books in season 1.
4) Wit and Humor – She’s a quick wit and sharp sense of humor which she gets from her mom Lorelai. It added depth to her character which makes her more relatab;e to me and probably to some viewers who appreciate clever banters and wordplay.
5) Strong Family Values – Rory’s out of this world relationship with her mom was every girl’s dream. Her love, closeness, loyalty and dedication to her mom, Lorelai, is very heartwarming. She supports her family so much, her grandmother Emily Gilrmore and grandpa Richard Gilmore. It is always cute to see her bond with her grandparents.
6) Independence: Although she is so close to her mom and almost everybody in Stars Hollow adores her and considers her as one of the loveliest children, she strives for independence and personal growth. She’s not afraid to volunteer in tasks and jobs she never had. She’s been an inspiration to most viewers, especially students who are also in their own journey to complete their academic requirements and self-discovery.
7) Relatability: Her experience in school, friendships, and relationship with her mom and everyone else are relatable to many viewers. Her downfalls, mistakes, and innocence makes her character with whom they can identify.
8) Resilience: Rory faces her fair share of challenges and setbacks. She is not afraid to own up to her mistakes, like in season one when she wrecked Pari’s project, when she was not able to take the exam with mr. Medina because she got hit by a deer on the way to school, her getting a low grade and many more. She is capable of bouncing back and keeps moving forward leaving the young people inspired.
9) Flaws and Growth: Rory is not perfect, but her flaws, well-rounded character, wit, honesty and imperfections makes her perfect. She grows from her mistakes, from her experiences, from and her past relationships throughout the series which makes her character compelling and believable.
10) Strong Work Ethic: Her determination to succeed in her studies and her dream of becoming journalist showcase her strong work ethic. Many, including me, admire her commitment to her goals. Like how she encourages Dean and Jess to finish school.
